The Wild Geese Classic Blend

Whiskey wouldn’t be whiskey if it didn’t come with a great story. Distilleries are often steeped in the history of their area and can trace their lineage of eccentric owners and escapades back through the years. The Wild Geese Irish whiskeys have taken their name from a true story. As people left Ireland, preferring not to live under English rule following the Battle of the Boyne and the Treaty of Limerick, they took the name, ‘The Wild Geese’, as they migrated.

Tracklements Gooseberry Relish

Tracklements are famed for their array of award-winning chutneys, relishes and pickles, all hand-made in small batches to traditional recipes, using only the best and natural ingredients. This new Gooseberry Relish is certainly no different. Made with fresh English gooseberries, juicy plump sultanas, a hint of ginger, turmeric, chilli and mustard, this little pot is packed with a flavoursome combination of sweet and tart with gentle spice. As recommended, I tried a dollop of the stuff on top of a fillet of hot smoked mackerel.

Trealy Farm charcuterie

I first tried Trealy Farm's charcuterie when I tucked into a butcher's block starter at the St Pancras Grand restaurant in London. I couldn't quite believe that the charcuterie I was eating was entirely British, but it was, and it was some of the best I'd ever tasted. Trealy Farm make their charcuterie both in Monmouthshire and across the UK. They combine traditional methods of curing, smoking and air-drying with innovation and technology inspired by training with charcuteries makers across Europe.

Twekkelo Farmhouse Yogurts

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never really got yogurt. No matter what you do to it, it still has that distinctively sour taste. Sure, you could have yogurt on your strawberries, but wouldn’t you rather have cream? And yes, you could have a frozen-yogurt, but you know it’s not going to hit the same spot as a real ice-cream. This is not so with Twekkelo! Twekkelo Yogurts are unlike any yogurts you’ll have tasted.

Vanilla pods

Even though these jet-black pods are vacuum packed to retain their freshness, the heady scent of vanilla still manages to permeate through the air as you pull the packaging out of its sliver tube. You can add a pod to a jar of sugar and shake it from time to time for a great jar of vanilla sugar, or you can flavour puddings with the pods, which are strong enough to be washed, dried and used a few times more.

Venezuelan Black

This cylindrical block of 100% cacao is for a certain kind of chocolate addict. If you love your Cadbury’s dairy milk, this may well not be the bar for you, as there isn’t a sprinkling of added sugar to be found. If you like cocoa nibs and you often head for the bar with the highest cocoa content around, then you will probably be itching to try this offering from Willie Harcourt-Cooze.

Veri Veri Teriyaki

You know before you even taste this that it’s going to be good. Once the screw top is off the bottle, the scent of garlic, ginger and sesame oil hits you and sends the immediate thought to your brain that you must get marinating. Use this lush sauce to marinate chicken, salmon, beef, veggies – anything you can get your hands on. It’s tempting to say ‘just use to marinate a stainless steel spoon’ because that would mean no absorption would take place, and you’d just have to lick the whole damn lot off yourself and marinate your tongue.

Vollmond organic lager

This is lovely stuff. If you’re not fond of those mass-market brands, and doubt yourself as a lager lover – give this a go. It’s a beautiful lager, and is only brewed under the silver light of a full moon. Nice. It’s even suitable for vegans if there are any of you out there, and it’s organic to boot. You’re not likely to have the worst hangover in history on Vollmond, or a personality change for that matter - due to its organic state as a lager, it’s devoid of any chemical nasties.
